In September 2021, Special Forces Association Chapter 1-18, acquired the mortgage on our forever home after several years of work, however it still takes capitol to keep up with the costs.
Background: In 2017 in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Chapter 1-18 lost it's teamhouse due to flooding. We were able to save 70-75% of the memorabilia that has been collected over the past 50 years. Just under two years ago we moved into a property owned by a Special Forces retiree. He gave us the option to rent indefinitely or to purchase outright. The property has a total of 5 structures on 64-acres with a lot of potential. The structures include (1) a double-wide trailer that has our office, bar and is the primary meeting area, (2) a 1,800 sq. ft. warehouse that serves as our assembly and chow hall, (3) an enclosed garage with plenty of space for our two pool tables and a couple dart boards and (4 and 5) two 20’ shipping containers that have been insulated and wired for climate controlled storage. We have been busy hanging the majority of the memorabilia and improving the grounds which is starting to pay dividends, bringing new people out each time the gates are open and gaining new members.
We are have continuosly been raising money towards the purchase of the property which recently transpired. Now that we have the mortgage, we are able to start making big changes. The Chapter recognizes that in order to draw in new membership and support, the property must be family friendly. In addition to providing the membership a Teamhouse for camaraderie and hosting our normal Special Forces Qualification Course Graduation (SFQC) BBQs, meetings and local events, we have a couple initiatives we are instituting immediately. In February we will begin hosting a monthly kid’s afternoon, using the warehouse as a movie theater and also hosting a monthly poker and bingo game. We expect the Family Readiness Group for the students and cadre of the SFQC to begin using this location for their monthly trivia nights, as well as different advanced courses using our space for some of their events.
This property has the potential of income revenue with billboards on I-95 and Highway 87 as well as selling timber and a possible cell phone tower. In the immediate future we will be modifying the compound to better fit our needs. Long term plans include a 3.5-acre parking area, a 2-acre stocked fishing pond and a nature trail with shooting lanes, capable of supporting 3-gun or sporting clay events.
This property will allow the Chapter to have an income versus a continuous deficit. Not only will your assistance go towards taking care of Special Forces soldiers and their families, providing a private, family friendly environment, but it will also aid in our ability to assist the Fort Bragg and Fayetteville areas. The projected income will be used to better support events focused on military families and single soldiers, increase our scholarship program, assist local food banks, work with other benevolent organizations and take care of Chapter family members in their time of need.
